Sony FE 100mm Macro Manual Focus Gear Installation // 200DL Underwater Housing [VIDEO]

The Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM lens is an exciting new addition to the Sony lineup of full-frame GM lenses. John Brigham walks through how to install the Manual Focus Gear inside a 200DL underwater housing to take full control of this lens' manual focus.

Equipment Used

• Manual Focus Gear for Sony FE 100mm F2.8 Macro GM # 5509.74

Installing the Manual Focus Gear

To start, use the zoom retainer ring tool to remove the retaining ring from the housing. We won't end up using this retaining ring for this lens, so you can set it aside with your spare parts.

Then, with your camera installed in the housing, attach your lens to your camera through the port mount. Push the focus ring on the lens down into the Manual Focus position.

Next, grab the manual focus sleeve and slide it teeth-side-down onto the lens. As you slide the focus sleeve over the lens you will start to feel some friction from the three pads on the inside of the sleeve (these interface with the lens' focus ring), gently push the sleeve all the way down until the gear teeth on the focus sleeve align with the drive gear on the inside of the housing. Once you feel it is engaged, turn the knob on the side of the housing to check for functionality.

From this point, install the rest of your port system as indicated on the instructions included with your port system.
