Cleaning a Strobe Battery Toggle Lock [VIDEO]

Featuring Steve Johnson

There's a lot of stuff floating out there in unfiltered water - and some of that is ending up underneath your battery pack toggle. If your strobe toggle lock is getting a little crusty and slowing down the pit crew, it may be time to give it some extra attention.

Ikelite Service Technician Steve Johnson shows you how to remove the toggle surround to carefully clean out any sand, dirt, and debris. Don't forget to lubricate the shaft before reinstalling the surround!

Removing the Toggle Lock Collar

The first thing you want to do is pull the toggle straight up. On the front side, you have the little toggle pawl that goes in the strobe that locks it into place. You want to push that up and this toggle lock collar will come out a little bit and then you should just be able to pop it right out. Now you've got the toggle that spins free.

To remove the toggle lock collar push up on the toggle pawl and lift the lock collar out.

Cleaning the Battery Pack Surface

You'll notice when you take this toggle lock collar off, it's probably going to be pretty dirty in there. You can use some mild dish soap, maybe a small toothbrush or clean paint brush to clean this out.

After you clean it out and dry it, I recommend using Ikelite lube to lubricate the toggle. You push the toggle up as far as you can and put some lube on it. That's going to help that toggle move up and down a lot easier.

While you have the toggle collar lock removed we recommend lubricating the toggle shaft with Ikelite lubricant for easier movement of the toggle.

Reinstalling the Toggle Lock Collar

After you get it cleaned and lubed to reinstall the toggle lock collar, push the toggle in, and you take the toggle lock collar and slide it right over the toggle. It should snap right back into place. Then you're done!
