Manual Optical Receiver for Fiber Optic Remote Triggering of DS Strobes (Non-Pre-Flash)
Trigger your Ikelite DS-series strobe off any camera or strobe flash. The Optical Converter simply attaches to the strobe's electrical bulkhead in place of a sync cord connector.
The Optical Receiver (Non-Pre-Flash) supports manual exposure modes as set on the attached DS strobe. TTL exposure mode is not supported.
An individual Optical Receiver is needed for each strobe. Use of multiple strobes requires one Optical Receiver per strobe. The Optical Receiver supports all Ikelite DS strobes.
Camera Compatibility
This product is intended for use when triggering a strobe by an LED flash trigger or for triggering a DS strobe remotely when shooting with a mirrorless or DSLR camera.
This Receiver will not provide appropriate timing if used with a pre-flash system. The strobe will fire on the pre-flash and under-power the main flash. For pre-flash camera systems, refer to these recommendations:
For use with most Olympus, OM Systems, or Panasonic cameras, use the RC1 Olympus & Panasonic TTL Receiver for DS Strobes instead.
For use with other compact digital cameras, such as the Canon G7X-series or Sony RX100-series, use the Pre-Flash Learning version instead.
For use with the Canon TT5 TTL Transmitter, use the RC2 TTL Receiver for DS Strobes instead.
Fiber Optic Cord Triggering
The removable fiber optic port allows for the attachment of a compatible fiber optic cord (see compatibility below).
Remote Triggering
The enlarged slave window provides approximately 90 degrees field of view for remote triggering. Or thread on the included fiber optic port for the attachment of and triggering via a fiber optic cord.
The Optical Receiver can be extended using the optional 3-foot Extension Cord for creative backlighting in wrecks, caves, and pool studio set-ups. It can also be used above water for studio photography work.
Connector Material
This product features a hard anodized aluminum connector. If you have an older strobe with a nickel plated brass (silver color) bulkhead, then we recommend returning your strobe to have the bulkhead updated to anodized aluminum to prevent seizing of the connectors.
The High Sensitivity Optical Slave Converter is perfect for use in environments with high ambient light or large distances between your remote strobe and the primary flash.
This is a non-learning, sensor which requires the camera to be in manual flash mode. This Converter will not work with a preflash. The Optical Slave Converter supports manual exposure modes as set on the attached DS strobe. TTL exposure mode is not supported.
If your primary purpose is to trigger a strobe fiber optically by a compact digital camera's flash, we recommend the Fiber Optic Converter # 4401.1 or RC1 Olympus & Panasonic TTL Receiver # 4412 instead.
