Locking Assembly Replacement for an ULTRAcompact Housing [VIDEO]

Featuring Steve Johnson

The locking mechanism on our ULTRAcompact series housings has been long trusted for its durability in secure latching of our underwater housings for a wide range of point-and-shoot cameras, including the popular TG-series

In the rare instance that the locking assembly is broken, switching it out is an easy process. Tenured Ikelite Service Technician Steve Johnson shows you how to do it using a hammer, channel locks, and an (optional) pair of pliers.

We're Here to Help

Although this replacement process is fairly simple, if you'd rather have our professinoals do the work please feel free to send it in for repair. Our experts will complete the replacement process and then water pressure test the housing before sending it back to you.

Lubricate the O-Ring

Before diving into the replacement process, one thing that we need to note is the importance of lubricating the main o-ring on our ULTRAcompact housings. If the main o-ring becomes dry it can become difficult to open and close the housing and compromises the integrity of the seal, so it's very important to keep this o-ring lubricated. You can lubricate this while the o-ring is still in its place. And now it's even easier to care for your gear on-the-go with our new travel-friendly resealable o-ring grease.

How to Replace the Locking Mechanism

Step 1 Required Tools for Ikelite ULTRAcompact Locking Lid Replacement

Place the new cotter pin on top of the old cotter pin and use the hammer to drive out the older cotter pin. A few small taps should get the old cotter pin out (highlighted in green) far enough that you can grab it with your pliers and pull it the rest of the way out. Now you can remove the locking latch.
