Creature Feature: Scaly-Tailed Mantis Shrimp

Ambassador Andrew Raak shares some amazing macro close-up video of the Scaly-Tailed Mantis Shrimp striking a nearby fish from its burrow.

These creatures' eyes are the most advanced in the animal kingdom. Their eyes have up to 16 photo receptors allowing them to see even ultraviolet light. In comparison people only have 3.

The mantis shrimp's striking ability is one of the quickest in the sea reaching similar speeds to that of a .22 caliber bullet.

This video was shot with a Canon EOS 60D in Ikelite housing.
