Diving Bikini Atoll and the Legacy of US Nuclear Testing [VIDEO]
By Klaus Thymann
This mini-documentary for CNN explores the long term effects of US nuclear bomb testing in the Marshall Islands from 1946 to 1958. Islands were evacuated for the testing and to date only one of 60 islands was cleaned by the US government.
Klaus visits the artificial reefs created by Navy ships used in the tests at depths up to 65 meters, including the USS Carlisle, the USS Arkansas, and the IJN Nagato. He also talks with residents about their hope for the future of this former paradise.
