I am Vicente Seco, an underwater photographer, filmmaker, and oceanographer. I began my journey at the age of 20 while studying Oceanography, when I realized how disconnected society is from what lies beneath the ocean’s surface. My work bridges imagery and scientific research, using video and photography as tools to communicate the challenges facing the oceans and, consequently, our planet.
I have collaborated on a range of conservation projects in Spain, Indonesia, and Mexico, using my camera to give visibility and support to numerous initiatives and groups dedicated to marine protection. In addition, my experience as a commercial diver and dive instructor—with more than 500 dives—has allowed me to develop a broad, global perspective on the challenges faced by marine ecosystems across different seas and oceans around the world.

Ribbonfish (Trachipterus trachipterus) recorded in Spain, the only documented sighting of this species alive in the Spanish Mediterranean. The discovery was published by National Geographic and widely covered by Spanish media outlets. The importance of the small things. In this image, I wanted to give importance to those things that often go unnoticed yet are essential. This is the case of remoras, which help maintain the health of whale sharks by feeding on parasites and organic debris attached to their bodies. © Vicente Seco Hanselaar
