I have done many dives and this was definitely the largest school of fish I had ever seen. It is a school of Big-eyed Scad - Selar crumenophthalmus - off the cost of Bonaire. It was at least 100 yards by 50 yards (91 meters by 46 meters) – think of half an NFL football field! It was hard to imagine how many individual fish were in the school.
I was able to get decent video footage and many photos. The fish did not seem to mind me approaching and even swimming through the school. Several Horse-eyed Jacks and Rainbow Runners were darting in and out trying to get a snack.
