Conversion circuitry in the housing allows the latest Ikelite DS model SubStrobes to provide real TTL flash control as dictated by the camera. The circuitry is powered by the SubStrobe which is attached with a single #4103.51 or #4103.52 dual sync cord. These cords are identifiable by their blue band.
NOTE:

Current DS model SubStrobe circuitry has been updated to provide optimum performance with all current systems. DS-50 and DS-125 SubStrobes produced before September, 2004 send audible ready and confidence signals to the camera for four seconds after taking a photo as per old Nikonos protocol. This interferes with required communication for new TTL digital cameras. Removal of this signaling allows these strobes to operate correctly with current digital protocol. See serial numbers below. Updated strobes still operate fine in all installations including Nikonos.
* DS-50 SubStrobes can NOT be converted to DS-51 specifications.

DS-50 Substrobes

* SubStrobes with Serial Number below 63,850 can NOT be updated to operate correctly with the latest TTL conversion circuitry.

* SubStrobes with Serial Number between 63,850 and 69,999 require upgrade of electronics to operate. Cost of update depends on strobe circuitry. Strobe must be returned to the factory for evaluation to provide an estimate of upgrade cost.

DS-125 Substrobes

* SubStrobes with Serial Number below 2,500 can NOT be updated to operate correctly with the latest TTL conversion circuitry.

* SubStrobes with Serial Number between 2,500 and 4,999 require upgrade of electronics to operate. Cost of update depends on strobe circuitry. Strobe must be returned to the factory for evaluation to provide an estimate of upgrade cost.

Older Substrobes may be sent directly to Ikelite for updating of circuitry. No prior authorization is required. Return shipping charges will be added to final repair cost.
