LITE-LINK Frequently Asked Questions and Description of Operation

MULTIPLE FLASH

Multiple units work well. There is no way to set the auto-zoom, but the zoom position that was set when the flash was removed from the camera will usually not change.

PRE-FLASH SETTING

Pre-Flash must be cancelled when using multiple flash with some camera systems even if they are hard-wired. Check the camera manual and the following chart. Click here for special Nikon N70/F70 instructions.

NON-TTL STROBES

The Lite-Link will NOT operate with non-TTL strobes like the Vivitar 283.
OTHER BRAND FLASH UNITS

Any strobe compatible with the camera's TTL system can be used as the master strobe on the camera. The Lite-Link turns on when it senses the circuitry of its attached strobe. The circuitry in strobes other than Canon and Nikon usually will not turn on the Lite-Link, but the following models are compatible:

Nikon compatible: Vivitar 728-AFNi
Canon compatible: Vivitar 628-AF
Canon compatible: Quantaray

Newest models now have a "manual on" switch to accommodate most other TTL strobes like SunPak and Vivitar. Click here for information on these new Lite-Link models for all strobes.

(1) - Nikon recommends cancelling monitor pre-flash when using multiple flash. On the SB-25, pre-flash can be cancelled by tilting or rotating the flash head on the master flash, the flash connected to the camera. Even with hard-wired multiple flash, pre-flash is not recommended.

(2) -To cancel monitor pre-flash on the SB-26, turn the switch on the front of the flash to "S" or "D" on the master flash. The master flash and the slaves should be set to TTL mode. See SB-26 manual page 132 for more information.

(3) - When used with Canon Elan-II or Elan-IIe, HSA-3 Hot Shoe Adapter-3 must be placed on the camera to cancel pre-flashes. Canon recommends that the pre-flashes that occur in the E-TTL mode not be used with multiple flash photography even if they are hard-wired.
(4) - When used with the EOS series cameras, "A-TTL" flash mode, which uses a preflash, is not recommended with any multiple flash photography even if it is hard-wired. "A-TTL" mode can be cancelled (resulting in standard TTL flash control) in two ways: 1) By using the "M" mode on the camera while still having the strobe in TTL mode. 2) By using the Hot Shoe Adapter-3 on the camera with the master flash which will result in TTL flash control (as opposed to "A-TTL") in all camera modes.

(5) - With the 540-EZ, "A-TTL" is cancelled when the camera is in the "M", "TV" (shutter priority), "X", and "AV" (aperture priority) modes. Hot Shoe Adapter-3 would only be necessary if you are using one of the camera's other program modes like "P", "DEP", or other image zone shooting modes.
