Nikon Coolpix 5000 Settings Guide
Any Ikelite TTL SubStrobe can be used in the TTL mode

  • Set ISO to lowest setting, Auto ISO is not recommended.

  • White Balance set to Auto.

  • Do not use the flash button to select flash options, use the Menu.

  • In the Menu, go to Speedlight Options, then Speedlight Control, then select Auto (a lightning bolt icon and a circled lightning bolt icon wih a line thru it will show on the LCD screen).

  • When taking a picture with external strobe, the built-in flash of the camera will pre-flash but it does not fire when the shutter is open.

  • Select Manual Exposure Mode, then Set Shutter Speed to 1/100 of a second. Aperture to f/5.6

Camera will "Reset to Default" settings when turned off unless this choice is turned "off" in the menu.

When camera is set to Macro Mode and you are shooting subjects close-up, set the camera's Aperture to its smallest opening (largest number). Do not use Macro Mode for photos more than two feet away from the camera.

When using zoom lens at focal lengths greater than 100mm, the Shutter Speed should be increased to 1/200th of a second.

Set Image Resolution to the Highest JPG format available. Higher resolution settings are required for printing. High resolution images can easily be reduced in size with software and retain their original quality. A low resolution image can be enlarged with software, but much of the quality will be lost.
