Six Packards

1927 Packard 343 Dietrich convertible coupe. The car is handsome and elegant even with the vertical design of the top and windshield. I have never heard of another one of these cars.

This was my first car as a 16 year old kid, and I own it again today.

1932 Packard 904 Custom Dietrich convertible victoria. One of the most beautiful of all Packard models with its "V" windshield and 148" wheelbase. It took me 27 years to acquire one of these.

1935 Packard 1207 Dietrich convertible victoria. No squeaks or rattles, and the 474 cubic inch twelve makes this an absolute dream to drive. The engine starts effortlessly hot or cold, and the vacuum assisted clutch and brakes are a superb design.

The '36 and '37 models with their more slanted radiator were my original preference. In retrospect, the upright '35 radiator design seems more elegant today.

40 Packard 180 Darrin
1940 Packard 180 Darrin convertible victoria. The view over the long hood, the sound of the exhaust, and the nimble acceleration are exhilarating. The white color makes it resemble a bent refrigerator, but the Darrins are gorgeous automobiles.

1948 Packard 2206 Custom 8 club coupe. This series is maligned with derogatory comments about the design, but the Custom 8 club coupe is a handsome car. 1948 was the last and finest of the 356 cubic inch engine series introduced in 1940. These are the smoothest and quietest of all Packard models.

55 Packard Caribbean
1955 Packard 5588 Caribbean is completely stock except for the stainless steel trim inserts because I do not like tri-color cars. I did this to a Caribbean in the fifties and drove it until it had 120,000 miles. Do you know how much you can hate such an old car when you can't afford new wheels like all your friends? Twenty years later I realized these really were the greatest Packards of them all, and recreated my original concept with a never abused 50,000 mile car.
