Crystal River, Florida, is home to one of our all-time favorite marine animal encounters. Every winter, hundreds of manatees seek refuge in the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. This unique protected area provides a place for the Florida manatee to winter. It is one of the biggest contributors to the increase from about 1,000 manatees in the 1970s to around 7,000 today.

The Florida manatee is a gentle giant with an attraction to nearby snorkelers. Stick to the Florida Fish and Wildlife department’s rules for interaction and be prepared for a magical, one-of-a-kind underwater experience.
