![]() October 24, 2007 ......... Captain Don's Habitat, Bonaire Story and Photos by Jean Brigham (unless otherwise noted) ![]() Many people cite Bonaire as one of the most beautiful dive destinations in the Caribbean, and it's easy to see why. Nearly everything on a Caribbean sea-dweller wish list is just a short boat ride away. And without even leaving the bar at Captain Don's Habitat you can watch tarpin stalking their prey in the shallow waters below.
Night diving was a thrill with prototype LED versions of our popular PC-series flashlights. These new LED's are really incredibly bright and everyone liked their cool, natural white color. A special lens gives a not-too-wide, not-too-narrow beam pattern that's completely free of hot spots. Look for these lights at a dive shop near you in early 2008. Throughout our stay at Captain Don's I couldn't help but notice the emphasis on environmental awareness and reef protection. The waters around Bonaire are designated as a Marine Park and their healthy reef system is proof that they take it seriously. Just a reminder to be extra careful when composing that perfect photo! Let your image make an impact and not your housing!
Congratulations to Aaron Biedenbach, who captured a stellar frogfish photo to tie for first place in Captain Don's weekly photo contest while we were there. He shoots a Nikon D-50 in an Ikelite housing with dual DS-125 Substrobes.
A big thanks to Jack Chalke, all of our divemasters, and the rest of the staff at Captain Don's! We look forward to visiting again next year and we suggest that you do the same!
