Many underwater explorers have been enthralled by the romance and mystery of the seahorse. I am no exception. I spent a good portion of underwater time on my honeymoon with my head poked in every soft coral I came across in hopes of spotting just one elusive seahorse. The two seahorses I took pictures of were easy to locate with the guidance of a local divemaster. On the first dive I intended on following the divemaster, but failed to inform my husband until we were at depth. The discussion did not go well as we disagreed on whether or not the divemaster knew the location of a seahorse. We engaged in a full blown slate fight that culminated in gurgled utterances that cleared the surrounding water of both sea and land life.
The next day we laughed about our underwater spectacle along with others in our group who had conveniently been witnesses. There was no discussion today. We were going to follow the divemaster as if we were Trumpet fish. It was truly a marvelous sight to be shown not just one, but two seahorses on the same rope sponge. Not a common occurrence, I feel especially fortunate to have had the opportunity to photograph them. Perhaps more importantly though it be left with such a special memory. The sight indisputably lived up to its name Mi Dushi, which means "beautiful" in Papamentu.
